Agree with these, but do people pronounce Jay-Z Jay-Zed??

I generally dont like band names that are over 3 words and prefer one word names like Tusk, Sleep, Grimes, Gas, Fauna, etc. Foreign or imaginary names are cool too as long as they're relatively short (Popol Vuh, Krallice, Wold, Wedard, Murmuure)

I do really hate bands that sound like "random-adjective random-noun" ala Animal Collective, Vampire Weekend, Velvet Cacoon (or Underground for that matter), Arctic Monkeys, Flaming Lips, and so on. Not really a fan of The ___s either (The strokes, the beatles, the vines).

Gnaw Their Tongues is a cool band name that's fairly long but I cant think of any others off the top of my head. Also like Scrufizzer for some reason. Hm maybe ill try and make a concrete list soon (chart idea?)

James White and the Blacks is a good name. The Humans is a good name too, and I thought of it long before R.E.M.'s drummer decided to make a shit band.

Best name: Easily the Alan Parsons Project. I mean that shit is so cool. Not to mention I was the only one who laughed out loud in Austin Powers when Dr. Evil named his laser The Alan Parsons Project.

Here are tonight's Top Ten lists:

Lousy names (counting down to the worst)
10. Radiohead (How come we never hear them on the radio then? Huh? How come?)
9. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (now, the Mighty Bosstones would have been a good name, but that second Mighty is just trying too hard)
8. Neutral Milk Hotel (I'm confused, is it a Milk Hotel of no political affiliation? Or a Hotel that also sells Neutral brand Milk products? "When you're in that Airplane Over the Sea, try Neutral Milk with your Tea or Coffee, and stay at one of our fine hotels!")
7. The Wu-Tang Clan (they are neither Tangy nor Wu-y. I'm not even sure they're a clan.)
6. Lynyrd Skynyrd (taken from a line in Allan Sherman song Hello Muddah Hello Faddah, 1963)
5. The Jesus and Mary Chain ('Scuse me, the what chain? the Jesus and Mary what?)
4. Pink Floyd (none of them are named Floyd. For that matter, none of them are pink. BTW, wouldn't it be awesome if P!nk recorded an album with Gilmour. Wright and Mason? They could call it Extra Pink Floyd or Pinker Floyd or even Floyd--Now With Real P!nk !!!)

2. Suicide (I've ranted about suicide as a theme in pop music before)
1. Yuck (I was predisposed to hate their album, but it turned out to be pretty good. Think how much more I would have liked it if the band had been named, well, anything else. Worst. Band name. Ever. )

Honorable mention: Oasis. Just a question, would one member of the band be called an Oasi?

10. Any name based on geography. Chicago. Boston. Kansas. The E Street Band. The Ohio Players. Kentucky Headhunters. Flo Rida. Can't think of a name for your band? Look at a map.
9. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. (There are lots of great sixties bands of the format X Y and the Z. Big Brother and the Holding Company. Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. Bonus points to Zappa's band because The Mothers of Invention by itself would be a great band name.)
8. The Presidents of the United States of America
7. Arctic Monkeys (monkeys are tropical, except for the Monkees, which were in California. There's no such thing as an Arctic one, which is why it's such a good name)
6. Bowling for Soup (What do we want? Soup! How are we going to get it? Bowling!)
