Darn, that's a great point. I knew about those two dates obviously, and I even knew that AftP was Kurt's last album. But it's truly scary how those two things go together.

That's why I don't listen to REM. I'm scared it'll make me kill myself 😮

It's stupid to think that R.E.M. was the cause of Kurt's suicide - they were his favorite band. Believe me, he already had his mind made up before he put Automatic for the People on. You won't kill yourself from listening to R.E.M. either.

One is a marvelous beginning and the other is a tragic end. The first is the 30th anniversary of R.E.M.'s first concert, which took place in Athens, Georgia on April 5, 1980. The other is the 16th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain, which took place in Seattle, Washington on April 5, 1994. (His body was discovered on April 8, but he shot himself three days earlier on April 5.) Both of these events changed and influenced music forever, and were interestingly somewhat related - the last thing Kurt was found listening to was R.E.M.'s "Automatic for the People". EDIT: If I have to post something myself, here's a thought-provoking quote about music from Bill Cosby.
"Nothing separates the generations more than music. By the time a child is eight or nine, he has developed a passion for his own music that is even stronger than his passions for procrastination and weird clothes."
1928, Born on this day, Tony Williams, The Platters, (1959 UK & US No.1 single 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'). Died on 14th August 1992.

1962, The Beatles performed at the Cavern Club in Liverpool as part of a special night presented by the Beatles' fan club. The Beatles wear their black leather outfits for the first half of the performance, for old time's sake, then change into their new suits for the second half of the show.

1984, Marvin Gaye's funeral took place at The Forest Lawn Cemetery, Los Angeles; Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy and other Motown singers, writers and producers, attended the service.
