A bit late; but from my experience more "frank" or "blunt" comments usually are a sign of the health of the message board as well as determinant of it's growth. Sure, arguments spur from these comments but it's nothing major or destructive.

I'm not going to say whether or not I agree with the OP, but if I truly had a problem with someone, I'd simply message them. I feel that a good amount of the drama that has been public could have been stopped from the participants messaging one another.

The site is fantastic right now, what with ongoing projects, competitions and just great discussion in general. I don't see anything wrong of late. Especially in comparison to parts of early-mid 2013, when things were a lot worse around here and tensions were high.

I mean, I'm just a new guy here, but from what I've seen, this forum isn't really that much more dramatic than any other internet forum I've been on. In fact, this one is actually more civil than most others (probably because the majority of the regular users on here are seemingly fairly intelligent). And even when there is some kind of internet fight on here, it's rarely "FUCK U DOOD UR SUCH A FAG", but rather thought-out arguments put together fairly well.

Also, maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like a lot of people have joined in 2013, a lot of people who frequent this site and aren't planning on leaving (myself included). I mean, with every forum, you get users who pop up for a day or two, maybe even a week, and then disappear, but it seems like there's a decent number of users who have stuck around and contribute meaningfully who joined this year.

I think the responders may even be selling the forum short here. To me, the point isn't just that a little conflict is inevitable, but also that it's healthy. If this forum were just a series of pleasantries and music recs, it wouldn't only be dull, it would be utterly vapid.

Take the Reflektor thread, for example. If that were just a series of posts from gushing fans, it would suck. As it turned out, though, it spawned discussions about generation gaps, the BEA ranking system, chart creation philosophy, media hype, zeitgeist theory, and much more. And every single one of those twists in the conversation sprang from some form of conflict. As long as people are mature about the way they handle it, that's the way it should be.

In other words, I don't just disagree with outlaw's perception of the forum, I disagree with his vision for it (based in part on other of his recent posts, not just this one). That's not a personal attack, it's just an opinion.
