I am not a big fan of Dolly Parton, but I do find it interesting that a sequel is going to be made of her recent made for TV movie named The Coat of Many Colors. Go here for the news. This is my most favorite song of hers because one of my most favorite female singers is a part of it, Tanya Tucker that is. 😄 😄 😄

I consider country music to be my favorite genre. But, it has been so bastardized by failed pop stars and their bro counter parts that it makes me cringe. It's arguably the most popular genre in the united states and one of the reasons the mass populous expect so little from music, these days.

If your looking for good music with southern roots, you are looking more for Americana. It is, itself, a broad genre, but there are no requirements for age or beauty. The music is what matters most.

Look at my charts to see my favorites. I also have and unfinished country chart that i need to tune up.

Sturgill Simpson is the new country artist that i have been most impressed with this year.

Y'know, listening to some old Cliff Richard favourites late last night made me realize he has a bit of country influence in several of his slow songs, so I guess I don't mind the genre quite as much as I thought. :p

Nickel Creek is somewhere between bluegrass, folk, and country I guess, and they're amazing.

Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, and Randy Travis are a few others I enjoy from time to time.

I'm not one who closely follows country, I know a few artists I've enjoyed and that's about it. Hank Williams lll is my favorite. I also like Mickey Newbury and Kris Kristofferson quite a bit. Emmylou Harris is another artist I enjoy quite a bit, but that's about it.

Most people give country a hard time because they think of Kenny Chesney or Trace Adkins posing on an album cover with a Nashville-mandated cowboy hat that I am pretty sure is surgically attached to their heads. But country music has had plenty to offer, even for some time after rock took over as the leading genre of music in the United States. I will admit that country is without a doubt past its prime but its influence is far-reaching. For God's sake, the Grammy for Album of the Year was given to a band whose leading instruments are a banjo, mandolin, and fiddle... and they're not even from America!

Marty Robbins and Hank Williams are on my to-hear list.

"Johnny Cash Sings the Songs That made Him Famous" made it to the 250's out of 337 on my overall chart, right over "Highway to Hell," and is at 12 on my 50's chart. Every 50's album I've heard was good, but this album was the worst at 7.5. Still, every album on the chart is good! I want to listen to the 1952 album "Hank Williams Sings," but different websites have different track listings. 😠

EDIT: Has anyone heard the Hank Williams debut, "Hank Williams Sings?" True country with a great vocalist. Great lyrics, too.

I voted 'Yep'. I like alt-country mostly, but classic country-rock, and elite (which seems to mean '70s) country-pop crossover singles are fine too.
