Seriously. I've tried it so many times. So many different moods. So many different people I've listened to it with. And of the probably 50 times I've heard albums of his, none have ever done it for me. I keep revisiting mostly because I'm an idiot. I'm not going to like it, I know that, but I am an idiot. That said, Hospice was one I'd been giving hate to somewhat publicly and I felt the need to express that it didn't deserve it. Sorry I did it in this way, probably would've sufficed to leave a comment on the album.

My recommendation to anyone before giving up on Hospice is to listen to it while reading along with the lyrics. You need to understand everything he's saying to really get the full emotional punch this album packs. It's a big one.

Very happy to hear about your experience. Hospice always hovers just outside my top ten. It really is an emotional juggernaut, and a musical masterpiece. More people should listen.

I kinda feel the same about Hospice as I do with Arcade Fire. It sounds gay and whiny at times, but I guess at the end of the day I still like it in spite of that.

I listened to Hospice for the third time. Went in with low, low hopes. Just wanted to like Kettering, it was the most alright song on my first two listens.

I came into this listen feeling like I was just harboring hurt and losing people. I was hurt and full of angst but not anger, confusion but not frustration, loneliness but not depression. It was maybe just the perfect equation. I came off of having heard Deja Entendu and For Emma Forever Ago. I was just in that mood. I was going to The Sound Of The Smiths next, when in the related videos on youtube I spotted Hospice. I rolled my eyes and sighed and realized I needed to give it one more chance. I was dreading it 🙄 .

And I came out of that album feeling cold and spinning. It struck me. It felt like something actually pierced into me. I feel oddly better about my own life while feeling oddly ... cold about the world. Actual shivers in me. I really did ... there was a sucking away of heat from this. I sat mouth agape for the whole thing.

Maybe it was the background. Maybe it was coming in empty and blindsided. Maybe it was reading the lyrics along with it. Maybe my house is just cold. I don't know. But this is incredible.

I feel like an idiot for not wanting to give it another shot. Wow. I need to go add this to my charts.

Really cool experience. Thanks for sharing.

Gonna go ahead and say I did both here. I didn't get it before. I kind of got it? I knew what the premise was supposed to be and I read the lyrics after listening and it was an alright premise but I didn't really understand what was so special. Now it feels special. And good.
