A lot (if not most) of MVOTC's appeal is in the lyrics to me. They're just really generational in a way. I wouldn't call the music or production as sterile either, obviously. I think it's pretty intricate.

I just find Vampire Weekend dull and sterile is all. I dont really hate them but I like to rag on them because theyre heralded as some beacon of music this year and I dont get it at all. I have a hard time understanding how people can be adamantly against all chart pop because it's "purely enjoyable" to me and yet here we are.

Honestly dude I don't know how you can't like that album. It's just purely enjoyable. Me and my lady never like the same music, but the two exceptions are The Shins and Vampire Weekend. You have to be a bit loony to not at least slightly enjoy Modern Vampires Of The City, which is why you hate it.

I'd go ofr Lorde's Royals for Song of The Year it was just there for most of the last months and it was super hyped and shit so that would be pick.

my honorable mentions would go to Janellle Monae's Look Into My Eyes and Pusha T's Let Me Love You (Although none of them were singles so I don't know if they qualify and from Justin Timberlake's 20/20 the best song is Let The Groove Get In but you are not gonna hear people mention it anyway...
