I would like to add a piece of advise which you can take for what it's worth. Along with your list of priorities above perhaps consider adding a budget for your money into the mix. If you currently have a lot of expendable money right now keep in mind that it may not last forever. If you put some of that money your spending on music into savings for the future you can use it at some point on your future self when you need it. Like when you are a poor college student or when you want to buy a ring for some hot bride.

I'm 33 years old with a better than average paying job but would say I feel "overwhelmed" by the high costs of living as the soul bread winner for a family of four.

I actually do this quite a bit too. With high success as well so far. Im starting to think there is a serious correlation between album covers I like v. albums i like.

The beauty of bandcamp is that, for the most part, you can stream those albums that you find right there. And some are free to dload too.

You want to discover the BEA Top 100? Do it, if you'd like to. I want to discover new bands, albums and genres, just totally randomly and not chronologically, so I decided to listen to the Overall Chart in order. I'm currently listening to Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream at #71. I could find all the albums online so far, and I bought a couple of albums, not that much just a few I loved a lot, ca. 3-4. It's a fun thing to do and I discovered great albums I haven't listened before.

I know the risks are low, and when I was living by myself it was different, but now it just feels like they're not just my risks to take, you know? Also, I technically work for the government (on a grant), so I'm in a more sensitive position than most...

Anyway, it doesn't bother me what other people do. In fact, I think we need to find a way to adapt the copyright laws to the digital age because the current ones are almost completely unenforceable.

This pretty much, I've never really noticed any difference in sound quality based on where or how I got an album.
And I also have no money.

That's true. For me, I usually listen to an album once or twice, and if I like it (let's say 75/100+) I'll buy it.

In the end, as long as you're supporting the artist in one way or another, you're doing something right.

If it's anything to you, I've been using Spotify for quite a while, I certainly recommend it. The premium version is certainly worth it!
