Master of Puppets is easily my 2nd favorite metal album of all time (next to Toxicity by System of a Down), and Ride the Lightning's certainly up there, as well, but overall I feel as though Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath were more consistent overall.

Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest.

Really, I'd be happy if they were the only three metal acts in my collection. Don't get me wrong...I like Metallica (they're represented on my chart), but they never fully won me over as a die-hard fan like those three bands have.

Metallica is a good act...those other three are metal royalty.

Ever since summer 2010, I've been sold on your beliefs: Sabbath IS the best metal band ever!

Sorry Applerill, I meant no disrespect.

I guess that I just take the Metallica subject personally because I was once a huge Metallica fan.

I have Master Of Puppets at #10 and And Justice For All at #39 on my chart.

Between 1983 and 1988 they were as good as it gets.

And then the Metallica I knew and loved died. 🙁

Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Black Sabbath

Are all better than Metallica and there are metal bands that are just as good.

In answer to the title of the forum, Metallica is undoubtedly the best metal band ever, unless you count Zeppelin as metal.

Aw, HELL naw.

Agreed. You could have at least picked a prog metal band like Dream Theater.

Were they still going after Slash left? (Not counting Chinese Democracy, I thought all the original members left on the same day)

Yeah. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to classify music in order to be able to just push play and get some special genre or mood or sub-genre playing. A lot of music is very difficult to categorize, even into top genres, but Black Sabbath is one of the easiest. They are definitely heavy metal in any common definition of that term, even if narrowing the genre down after it having evolved during 40 years.

I hear this statement a lot and I don't think it's true. Listen to their title track or "Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener" or "A National Acrobat". Those songs transcend hard rock-they're sludgy, doomy, HEAVY as all hell masterpieces of music.

...Crap, I've gotta go listen to some Sabbath now.
