Personally I'd pick Seven Nation Army, something about the riff resonates with on a very primal level I feel.

Great choice. I'd probably pick Do It Again by Steely Dan.

Probably something simple and fun like Jailhouse Rock.

The lyrics are simple enough that they could be translated into, uh, Papua New Guinea-an, or whatever, and if they sit through all 18 minutes of it, it will blow their mind.

I'd play it for them on vinyl. The mechanics of vinyl records are simple enough that a child can understand it (I know this because, when I was a child, I understood how vinyl records worked). Compared to vinyl, CD's or an iPod would be black magic, which would distract from the music.

Probably a fun accessible classical piece like Vivaldi - Winter.

Or Enya.

Ridiculed once again for liking Oasis. I'm not much of a fan of Wonderwall anyhow.

Good point. It'd be nicer to have a trade, you know, all the stuff on your MP3 player for all the stuff they can play round a campfire.

Ooh maybe An Ending (Ascent). There's nothing too complex there, and no actual lyrics, so the vocals wouldn't confuse them. And it would still blow their minds.

This was the first thing that popped into my head for no particular reason....but maybe I'd choose something more lively in a different mood.

Probably Exuma, The Obeah Man

and then move on to I Am The Resurrection to see the look on their face as they realise the diversity of music

Johann Sebastian Bach - Orchestral Suite No. 3
particularly Air on the G String.

for some reason i think that any song with lyrics would detract from the emotion of the music. especially to a culture who had never before experienced music in that sense.
