Congratulations Canada! They showed to be worthy of a gold medal. Simple lesson: defense - attack - defense = 17-3 (Sweden 0, USA 0, Latvia 1, Finland 1, Austria 0, Norway 1). The Maple Leaf team, I think it is better than four years ago.

Canada dominated hockey today, huh...

Anyway, really successful Olympics for us. 8 medals, 2x gold (alpine skiing - Tina Maze taking both), 2x silver (ski jumping - Prevc, snowboarding - Košir), 4x bronze (cross country - Fabjan, biathlon - Gregorin, and again Prevc and Košir). Also a bunch of top 10 finishes, hockey team making it into quarterfinals. Doubt we'll repeat this anytime soon.

US did the same thing Canada does - zero effort in a Bronze medal game. Wish both teams would recognize the value of bronze, and respecting your opponents enough to put in an effort.

That said, good on the Finns - hell of a tournament. Teemu Selanne is a shoo-in for the HOF.

5-0 - what tidy match! The U.S. tried (two penalty shots failed , Kane 😢 ), but to no avail. GK Tuukka Rask showed ability and Teemu Selanne (age less than Gordie Howe 😁 ), two goals the last game in the national team.

Disappointing Olympics for U.S. Hockey .. assuming we lose this game, overall we're doing alright on the overall medal standings though. 😎

Congrats Canadians. Great game, Canada's D was stout to say the least, U.S. couldn't get to the middle at all. Quick did all he could but Canada deserved it.

Not sure who to root for Sunday. At least a Bruin will win gold either way. Probably Canada since Bergy is my man crush.

I know the sterotype of Russian players - selfish goalhounds that don't know how to play D or check... I wasn't using it.

I watched them play - they seemed to lack systems or organization. Blame the coach, blame the players, whatever... they weren't as cohesive as the Finns (or the Latvians). Russia had a tonne of shots, but how many were quality scoring chances? I don't blame Ovechkin or the KHL players. I think it's a team issue, and much of it should fall on the coach (who was picked by Putin. Could you imagine if Harper or Obama picked the Canadian or US coaches?)

ugh Russia seems to have this notoriety for having "selfish" players. I wonder if Canada lost to Latvia would people blame it on Crosby playing like an individual? Russia lost because they have very little depth at any position, took KHL players over NHL ones, and played a Finnish team that clogs the neutral zone like the NJ Devils circa 2003. Russia didnt have a great team but i guarentee people blame this loss on Ovechkin, just like the dumbos are blaming the fact that the Caps are shit on him. Russia outshot Finland what 38-22? but sure it was unselfishness that got Finland the win and not star goaltending.

The U.S. has had zero issues with finishing, with plenty of guys chipping in, although they could seemingly all just climb on Kessel's back. The JVR-Pavelski-Kessel line has been a treat to watch. Bozak is a great player, but those two guys look even more scary with Pavelski in the middle. On the other side of things though no one will be surprised if Canada finds that finishing touch, way too many of those guys make a living at finishing.

Or maybe the edge in goaltending to the U.S. will be a deciding factor... I don't know but I can't wait.

Both teams know eachother. There should be no surprises. I hope it's a classic. Just don't send it to a shootout after a dire 1-1 draw.

Well i mean they outshot Latvia like 57-19 so it wasnt a close game. Their goalie did his best Scrivens impression an nearly stole the game for them. But Canada dominated. Canada has just had some bad luck scoring imo. I dont think theyre playing bad at all and people are blowing up this whole "Crosby isnt playing well" thing way out of proportion. Can't believe how close it ended up being. Just finished watching the U.S. game after work, only got to see the final 2 minutes of Canada but wow, they are just squeaking by. When the coverage switched to Canada vs. Latvia after the U.S. game ended, I was quickly reminded by hearing the names how fucking loaded Canada is. What's going on are they just not finding chemistry/proper line combinations? I've barely seen any of their games for whatever reason. And just selfishly as a Bruins fan wondering, is Bergeron playing decently?

Obviously I'm beyond pumped for U.S. vs. Canada on Friday. Tempted to take the day off if possible. Even though the U.S. team has played brilliantly and Canada has been apparently underwhelming, I still can't help but think it's 50/50.

Lol Switzerland.

I actually had to miss the match today, and won't be able to watch the last period tomorrow.

Anyway, we don't have much of a chance against the Swedes, esp. with one extra match played, but if we start better than vs Russia and USA (where we were 0-2 down before the game started properly), we could "make em sweat" a bit. Kopitar-Muršak-Rodman line-up is a beast, unfortunately we don't have that much depth to get closer to them.
