Given the relative lack of interest in changing the name, I'll just leave it as is. I suppose a descriptive name is better anyway.

On an unrelated note, I'm making a chart to document the UPotD:

User Pick of the Day (03/17 - Present)

I'm using the user's comments in the thread as notes for the chart. If anyone would prefer I not include their comments, please let me know.

Let's keep brainstorming ideas for the name, cause "User Pick of the Day" is really lame. Some more ideas:

Choice Album of the Day (keeps with the AotD naming theme)
User Select
Circle Jerk of the day (mostly kidding... mostly)
The Music Geek's Corner

Maybe Expert isn't the word, but well-listened for sure. I think there's definitely some users like Norman and Error Finn, who have listened to huge amounts of music over a long period of time and have something to offer to the group that many of the younger users would likely appreciate.

A while ago I put up a post in the Suggestions forum that was more or less the following:

- In addition to the "Album of the Day" and "World Album of the Day," we should have an "Expert Pick of the Day." There would be some algorithm that selects an album from the overall chart of one of the highest-ranking members and posts it for discussion on the forum every day. In addition, there would be a restriction on the album's rank on the overall chart (say, >500) to avoid too much overlap with the "Album of the Day."

There was a lot of support from the users (even the Poe seemed happy about the idea), but unfortunately, albummaster is swamped at the moment and probably won't be able to implement it anytime soon. However, there's nothing to prevent us from implementing something similar on the forum ourselves.

Now, I'm willing to take charge of this whole deal, but I want some input first. The casual version would just involve me posting albums to this thread based on my own judgement of what charts to pick from and what albums would be interesting to talk about. The more serious version (which I prefer) involves a nomination process where the forum users all have a say in which charts get included. Once the full list of charts is compiled, I'll cycle through them, selecting the expert's first album that is ranked 500 or lower on the overall and hasn't already appeared as an EPotD. Once I post an album, all we do is talk about it, just like with the AotD or WAotD.
