I got an early pressing of this a number of years ago, and I'll never forget the first time I listened to it. For some reason (I figured out later why it happened), even though the album still sounded full and rich, only about half the instrumentation was coming through. It was like someone had gone in and removed entire instruments. Ever heard Rumours without guitars or cymbals? Well, I have. It was a really bizarre experience. It made me realize how many layers there are to this album though. They've occasionally doubled up the drums with bongos and timpanis, and it really accentuated them. I think the only drums that were left were the toms and snare. The bass lines are also ridiculously strong, they get so lost in everything else that's going on. Also, there are a lot more vocal harmonies than I knew. Some just blend in with the guitars. I've tried to recreate the experience since, but I've never been able to (at first I thought it was my stylus, but it turned out my RCA cable was fried and I needed a new one).
I swear I wasn't on drugs
Anyway, I know this isn't exactly a "cool" album to like anymore, but I think it's fantastic. Always down to listen to it.

Iconic, amazing, timeless. Don't care much for "I Don't Want To Know" & "Gold Dust Woman" but the rest are perfect.

One of the best albums of the 70s
Simply one of the best albums of all time. 40 million sales says something. Its in the top 10 bestselling albums of all time in the world. And its faultless imo. And it sounds great played loud in the summer time. I love Second Hand News, Dreams, The Chain and Gold Dust Woman best. But the whole album is terrific. A classic.

This album positively dominated my entire high school (my freshman year)--at least the non-cowboy part of it. I resisted initially because the people constantly proclaiming its greatness were the most drugged out kids in the school. But over the years it grew on me and now I can appreciate it for the landmark brilliance that it was.
Not a single dog on the albume, but my personal fave is Chains, and all time great in any genre, with Gold Dust Woman, Dreams, and Go Your Own Way not far behind.
