Even after all these years, this is still one of my favourite albums of the 21st century. Tracks like "The Scientist" and "Clocks" are classics, but "Amsterdam" is my favourite Coldplay song. The weakest tracks are "Daylight" and "A Whisper", but even they're still pretty good.

Coldplay's lead-single, the beautiful and bracing In My Place has already broke the radiostations in a small piece of time. The track, that's been on the band's set list, through the last two years, which are the closest to the debut "Parachutes". The quartet proved musically, they were deliverable, in present durable song gems, where the essential of traditional songwriting got new life. The expectations and the often hardere sophomore hasn't been a problem for Coldplay. "A Rush of Blood To The Head" is nothing less than formidable. Music-wise and songwriting, the band has taken a quantum step forward. The songs is contrasty, has several layers, and possesses a whiff of danger. Coldplay is pardoned with the singer Chris Martin, with his vocal-falsettos understands to express, so sensitive, that you're getting goosebumps, everytime he opens his mouth. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face has an easier affect on jazz, until the soaring chorus breaks in, while Daylight and A Whisper are fiery, and proves that Coldplay can play a progressive rock song without overblowing. The introduction to Green Eyes's acoustic guitartones and Chris Martin in his catchy tunes singing "Honey you are a rock", is one of those moments, where you just wanna belt out your lungs. It doesn't get better, when Chris Martin in the fantasticly pompous Warning Sign states "When the truth is that I miss you so". "A Rush of Blood To The Head" includes 11 shooting stars, but the title track stands out music-wise and lyric-wise. The defaulting love has never been described more desperately "He said I'm gonna buy this place and watch it fall / stand here beside me baby in the crumbling walls / I'm going to buy this place and start a fire / stand here and feel all of your heart's desires". "A Rush of Blood To The Head" is one of 2002's releases, that shines enormously after all these years, and where Coldplay stepped into peak, and rose up in a league of its own.

I think Coldplay needs to cough up some of their royalties to Ride because "In My Place" sounds similar to "Dreams Burn Down".

and this is coming from someone who likes this album.

Very good album, although it might "only" be my third favourite from them. The debut and Viva La Vida are stronger as albums, IMO, even though this one has higher highs. It's just that the first 5 tracks are much much better than the latter 6. I've never really warmed up to the tittle track and Amsterdam like many people here.

Can you imagine releasing an album against Radiohead, especially post OK Computer.

What a burden!!

For me, this is my go-to coldplay album.
its almost a masterpiece. Replace 1 or 2 songs, this album would have easily been a classic.
Lets tip our hat for chris martins falsetto vocals- not to many in the industry.
God put a smile upon your face, the scientist, clocks, warning sign-- are exhilarating .
9/10.

This one wore thin for me. Like I can't put it on anymore and enjoy it. Much prefer Death and All His Friends or Parachutes somehow.

Also find it sad what happened to Coldplay. In the early 2000s it was something quite a few different camps had hopes in and then they just died.

This was such an awesome post I had to make sure you weren't trolling, and nope - totally #21. Can I join the cool dawgs club if I have Death and All His Friends in my top 20? Or does that immediately get me kicked out?
