Agreed, but surely it's also worth mentioning when an artist who's made highly-ranked long-form releases in the past actually starts putting those reasons into practice and, by doing so, disqualifies himself (or herself) from BEA rankings...?

With Andy Partridge in particular, I can also recall a handful of tweets from him about the subject (though they're all gone now that he's deleted his Twitter/X account like everyone else). The gist of them was that he'd preferred making EP's rather than LP's all along, so when it became economically smarter to make them, he was really happy about it. Then again, I should also mention that he's also someone who really enjoys designing cover art, and since fewer tracks means more cover art per track-being-released, that's also a factor for him. (He even has a new book out in which he illustrates individual songs that weren't necessarily released as singles.)

Absolutely. And I can see why it's important when an artist like Partridge changes gears like that after so much time being a full album guy.

My friend who I play in a duo and band with and I have been talking about the same thing. We have both done albums, but are now thinking that maybe the way for us to go is to make a series of shorter releases, singles to maybe 4-5 songs each time, and then combine them later on into an album. The shorter releases could hold the listener's attention easier, and if it seems worthwhile, then a full length release later on. Especially for a non-signed artist, or an artist who no longer has the following they once had, this might be a better way to go. And for Partridge, who I'm guessing still doesn't tour, it could be a good way to go.

But, that's also why this thread. If they can't be included in the album database here, at least we can have SOMEPLACE to hype the shorter releases...

Yes, I know 7 songs qualifies and I've added those two releases already. I was just responding to this comment by MadhattanJack:

"TBH, I think his reasoning is that with everybody streaming and/or downloading individual tracks, it just made more sense for him economically to get the material out there sooner, rather than wait until he had 10 songs or however-many-it-would-be. Maybe he'll change his mind someday. You never know!"

It's basically the same thing the guy from the MusicScribe blog told me about why some albums are getting shorter so I responded to that comment.

I thought a release that was less than 20 minutes didn't qualify to be added. 19 minutes is less than 20 minutes.

The rule on BEA. As stated in the thread title. Is this:

Less than 5 tracks, AND less than 20 minutes.

And I think we all understand the reasons for artists putting out shorter releases.

So I guess that means you think I wasn't supposed to respond to MadhattanJack's comment. Well excuse me. And excuse for thinking that less than 20 minutes meant less than 20 minutes.

Everyone didn't delete their Twitter/X account.

The Falls Into Place EP from Mason Ramsey has five songs, but it is under 13 minutes long. Before that EP his previous one named Twang is just a little over 15 minutes long with another five songs on it. His first EP named Famous is 17 and a half minutes with six songs on it. Smile Smile Smile

God bless you and him always!!!

Romanelli told me that the EP I mentioned that had 5 tracks but was less than 20 minutes qualified for inclusion on the site so I guess the ones you mentioned do too. He may get snippy with you too for thinking less than 20 minutes actually meant less than 20 minutes. He's quite rude.

You asked. I answered. You think that's rude? What the f%&* ever. If you read the damned original post, what I am looking for is EP's that are, AGAIN, less than 5 tracks AND less than 20 minutes. I am looking for those because they aren't eligible to be on BEA. You think that's rude? What I think is rude is that you have, once again, hijacked an entire thread and made it about YOU. Because that's what you do.

So, here we are on page 2, and I'm still having to explain the thread to you because your reading comprehension is at almost zero. This would be the equivalent of me going to your christian music thread and adding Black Sabbath albums, because Sabbath is something that happens in church, right?

Wouldn't that be a stupid thing to do?

The EP I talked about in this thread is 19 minutes long, that's less than 20 minutes, naturally I'm going to think it doesn't qualify to be added to the site. And obviously, so did Holly. She mentioned 2 that have 5 tracks and one that has 6 tracks. It sounded to me like you didn't like me responding to MadhattanJack's comment. That's what I thought was snippy. You've already said before that you don't like me posting my opinions just because you disagree with them.

I don't like your opinions because you don't listen, you don't read, you fail to understand that just because it's your opinion doesn't mean you are right, and you don't comprehend. Also, because the opinions of others don't matter to you, and you make assumptions without facts. Disagreeing with you is at the very bottom of that list.

I backed off from speaking to you on the other thread at the request of others. And now, here you are. So what do you want from me?

I don't care if you like my opinions or not, but you said before that you didn't want me to post them. I am a member here just like you and I should have the same right as any other member here to post my opinions whether you like them or not. Believe me, I'm not in love with some of your opinions on music either, but I've never suggested that you shouldn't post them just because I don't like them. You just came across as snippy to me that's all. Just because I responded to a comment by another user here, you didn't need to say that everyone knows that already.
