I don’t think it works very well as a rock opera per se. yes, there is a story to it, but it’s got about as much concept as Sgt. Peppers, which is to say almost none. But other than that it’s a good album. Definitely their best musically, with some very charged songwriting.

My favourite green day album by quite some distance. Agree that it doesn’t necessarily work as a “rock opera” but it does contain some of their greatest songs.
