Don't know why, but I like their self-titled debut album better. I have to agree, "There is a light..." is a great song!

Dark and gloomy, poetic and provocative, lyricaly intelligent. An album that has shaped 85% of what has been recorded ever since, Few albums are as awesome...

Am I the only one who thinks the title track is the best? Confused

90/100 though, fantastic album. Just a shade above their debut.

I'd have to say the best track is the title track but There Is A Light is incredible too.

Much better IMO.

At the moment, I don't like "Some Girls Are Better Than Others".
The album would've finished better on "There Is A Light..."

It's actually my favourite song off this album. Guitar work is amazing on it. Anyway, this album is an absolute killer, with songs which have achieved classic status : "The Queen Is Dead", "Bigmouth Strikes Again", "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out", "The Boy With the Thorn In His Side",... what more do you want? Best albums of the 80s, with better sound than their debut. Anyway, all 4 (5 with Hatful of Hollow) Smiths album are must-listens, and must-listens-over-and-over. I can understand how you wouldn't like it, though. Morrissey's persona is not necessarily appealing to everyone.

Is this directed towards me?
Just so you know, I have 3 Smiths albums and a Morrissey album in my Top 100.

I just think that "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" would have been the perfect closer, and having "Some Girls.." as the closer instead spoils this potential.

Not at all. I should have used "one" instead of "you". Sorry.
