I love this album. It's one of my favourite compilations. It served, along with the red album, as my introduction to The Beatles. I would make one or two changes but as it is it is excellent.

"The Beatles only really had a few masterpieces and the rest is junk"

Oh, here's a collection of some stuff they did in a 3 year period... no big deal. Only a couple of really good songs, and the rest is rubbish... hehe. I think not. Brilliant song writing and even more amazing albums.

I second Stover - I had Abbey Road, and then this (parents had sgt pepper)... bought the red later to get into their earlier stuff. Earlier stuff has it's place in pop music (somewhere near the top), but this stuff had just the right amount of juju to really put this work in a place of it's own (imo). If you appreciate it as anything less, perhaps Fred Durst can help out with that (looking at you Scaruffi... who somehow equates the two albums significant other and sgt pepper... when I saw that my leap of faith that he might be saying something other than garbage was destroyed).

A perfect example of why the Beatles are so overrated. Starts right out of the chute with blatantly mindless hippie escapism (cool chord progression though) and the continues throughout with a typical Beatle rollercoaster alternating between clever and crappy, thoughtful and drug-addled gibberish.

A best of compilation and Octopus's Garden should never be used in the same sentence.
