Opeth was one of my favorite bands for a minute, and while this was one of their albums I didn't listen to that often, I still think it's pretty great. Not their best, but far from their worst. Blackwater Park does at times feel like a rehashed Still Life, at least to me, but for the newcomer to Opeth, this album is a must.

Still my favourite Opeth album. Maybe. Probably. I find it to be an improvement on Still Life, with better production and more consistency. High quality production in metal can be a blessing or a curse, but this is seriously some of the best sounding guitars and drums I’ve ever heard. My Arms, Your Hearse may be more consistent overall though, picking the best Opeth release is a nightmare. _________________ Overall chart

It really is. I am downloading it now. I like Opeth's progressive death metal debut (Orchid) and its prog rock album Damnation. Other albums I have listened to (e.g. ghost reveries) are hit and miss for me, but I need to give this one a try.
