It's a lot of fun but 70+ minutes is a bit much for an RHCP album.

Overlong & underwritten. They got better (or maybe as Gowi said, it's just nostalgia) but Frusciante left the band to do much better things by himself.

There's some stinkers. A solid album though. I prefer Californication and possibly By The Way. Maybe One Hot Minute too.

It's far too silly for far too much of its runtime, and I mostly can't stand Keidis' obnoxious staccato pseudo-rap vocals. Its attempts at funk are sterile, stilted, and parodic, and the lyrics are largely nonsense (and not in the charming, self-aware Malkmus sense, either). That all said, it has a goofball likeability at times and some memorable tunes. I don't completely hate it, but it isn't very good. (Also, people used to criticise hip-hop albums for being too long...)

Pray Pray Pray

There is a very good album here, but it's way overlong with too many fillers and tracks that do absolutely nothing. Most of their albums are overlong and a chore to listen to, but Californication and By The Way had more of the good songs.
I believe Sir Psycho Sexy epitomizes the highs and lows of RHCP the best. It's god five minutes of the pointless uninteresting humpity bumpity Kiedis shit Skinny explained so well and then 3 minutes of brilliant Fruciante instrumental which blows you away.

Welp, for me the nostalgia is with this one. I still think it's got their best songs - Breaking the Girl, I Could Have Lied in particular, but I dig pretty much everything in the first half. Yeah and then it's about 20 minutes too long, but ok.
