This and their debut are The Doors at the height of their powers, and it's hard for me to pick a favorite between the two.

Every single time I hear When The Music's Over, it always blows me away. It's just such an incredible song (and even better when you're a little high). People often ask "if you could go back in time and see one concert, what would it be?" and my answer is always I wanna see The Doors at the Whiskey in 1967 doing When the Music's Over and going absolutely bonkers

People and critics have sometimes called this a sophomore slump I completely disagree, it measures equally to the original, it's only crime is its second to it in place.

Has some great deep cuts like lost little girl and moonlight mile and I love the punk tinged energy of my eyes have seen you. Maybe horse latitude is weak but propped against some good songs its not that bad.

Then their is When the Music's Over, in my youth I use to prefer The End as the doors choice of epics and thought the former was second tier. Now in my thirties I find the roles have reversed. The end while still a classic has a sophomoric feel in lyrics and music . Music on the other hand just has a little bit more muscle to it, and engages me with the rock Dionysian theatrics Morrison emanated and which the band fed off. It doesn't feel as hokey to the end, it revels in a chaos that's timeless to human concerns. Yes lyrics are slightly trite, but their more direct, and more powerful. I nominate this track for my funeral.

Easily sits next to the debut, had they been released as a single album it might have been considered one of the best double albums in history.

From upbeat pop songs like Love Me Two Times to insanely dark songs like Horse Latitudes, the Doors show some real breadth here. Truly great album, which easily have come across as unfocused and disjointed.

This used to be my favorite Doors album but now I really can't decide. In a way this is better than the debut because the lesser cuts are a little better. And this one has Moonlight Drive and People are Strange and Love Me Two Times, all of which I like better than the hits on the debut. And I always liked the Doors better as hitmakers than for those long epics like When the Music's Over or The End or Five to One. And strangely enough nowadays I prefer Morrison Hotel and Soft Parade. And I never preferred LA Woman cuz it just doesn't have enough great ones on it, other than Riders on the Storm and LA woman.
