I slightly prefer Crooked Rain, but this is one of the highlights of the 90's, for me. It took me some time to appreciate it, though.

I'll let Nezzle elaborate for every Pavement lover out there. Effing masterpiece of an album.

I'll even go as far as saying I prefer Wowee Zowee (I believe that's the name, can't seem to remember).

I like this album but I feel like the vocals could be much better.

That's one of the points of this band. The vocals are trademark and they're perfectly natural.

Well this certainly appeals to the slacker in me. Absolutely stunning and one of the greatest debut albums of all-time. Yes it sounds like This Nation's Saving Grace, and yes they went onto better things (in my opinion), but as an introduction and a statement of intent Slanted & Enchanted is as good as it gets. It's a ramshackle mess, unafraid of embracing abrasion and dissonance, but I always thought that their grasp of an accessible, catchy melody was only matched by Weezer and The Lips amongst their peers (if you can call Weezer their peers), and the way their playing constantly threatened to unravel altogether at any given moment helped to distill a brand of calculated spontaneity particular to them, and creates a sound that I find as thrilling as any other. I think their first three albums are all pretty much perfect, all very different but all unmistakably Pavement (that John Peel quote about the aforementioned Fall being "always different; always the same" is something that applies to Pavement). Currently Wowee Zowee is the one on my chart, as I think that one is the most fun and is currently the most interesting to me, but this and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain would both be on my chart too were it not for my 'one album per artist' rule. This album is awesome, endearing, full of great tunes and endlessly interesting. They're a comfort band for me, one I find myself going back to when I need cheering up, and I recommend this album to anyone with even a passing interest in pop music.

I just prefer bands with good vocalists like Radiohead, Nirvana and Neutral Milk Hotel. This is the reason I don't like Pylon that much.
