Finally one of my picks has made an appearance. Naturally it's up against the wonderfully bizarre Dogbowl. I'm not really familiar with Dogbowl's work outside of early King Missile, but he's a charming original so if Time of the Last Persecution falls in this round, it's all good.
ok, so Time of the Last Persecution...
I fell hard for this album last year after Bill Fay was finally convinced to record a new album. Released in 1971, Time of the Last Persecution is one of those timeless records which speaks not of a time and place but the interior of one's own soul. Much like Nick Drake, this album is a warm singer-songwriter record with fuller arrangements than what you'll hear on a Dylan record. Fay has been cited as a major influence for Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, and the evidence is present throughout this record. While much of the album is down tempo melancholy, some of you will be delighted to hear the occasionally swell of guitar solos.
