I was originally going to make a giant rant about how modern indie rock is unmemorable and how there hasn't been a truly amazing indie rock album in almost a decade, but then I realized that I probably don't know enough about modern indie rock to say anything.

But I will say that I want to listen to music that has what I call "sonic impact", a quality that lets the music stay with the listener. I haven't listened to much new music lately, but when I listened to "Modern Vampires in the City", I liked a few songs but was ultimately disappointed because a lot of the tracks sounded the same and were slow, quiet, and lacking sonic impact. That's not to say that music is bad, though, since "Colma" by Buckethead is a quiet album yet I consider it as having sonic impact.

Maybe it has to do with the instruments. I feel like ever since what I consider to be Funeral's generic drumming I feel the rhythm of a lot of albums have been lacking. Or maybe artists are just afraid to put the instruments in your face so everyone can hear their favorite artist' shitty, whiny, pretentious, vocals.

Well this actually DID turn into a bit of a rant, huh? Whatever, I'll just end this by saying the only artists that I really like today are Wavves, Daft Punk, and Macklemore. If you want a look at my tastes just look up my chart. And yes, I feel music on the radio often has more sonic impact than indie today.

So are there any modern indie rock albums worth getting today? Ones that I can consistently listen to for years?

You said all modern music is bad while admitting you have barely listened to any modern music. Why don't you just listen to more modern music?

This.

How the hell can you complain about modern music when you haven't even bothered to go out and look for any? There are tons of great modern day bands.

I kind of hope this is intentional trolling cause this seems like a parody

Well this is your number 6. Also go for Animal Collective and The Strokes. And if you want harder rock, I suggest Sting in the Tail by Scorps, I Bet on Sky by Dinosaur Jr., The Next Day by David Bowie, and A Different Kind of Truth by Van Halen. And since you like Rush and Pearl Jam, I'll suggest Clockwork Angels and Lightning Bolt. I haven't heard Lightning Bolt yet, but it got some good reviews raning from 3 1/2 to 4 stars, so I wouldn't pass it.

Honestly, I had the same problem as you when I first started. Now 2013 is my third favorite year.

Before anyone says anyone says anything else, I just listened to the first track off of reflektor and my mind has changed.

edit: I apologize if I got anyone pissed, it's just that sometimes my temper gets the better of me.
