Post subject: Predict the Nominees for the 2010 Grammys
I know many people dislike the Grammys (myself included), but the nominees for this years Grammys come out on Monday, and I thought it would be fun to try and guess the nominees for Album of the Year. The goal is not to pick your five favorite albums, but the most likely to be nominated. (A quick note about eligibility: in for the album to be nominated it has to have been released between October 1st 2008 and August 31st 2009, bizarre, I know)
Here are my guesses for AOTY:
Kanye West- 808's and Heartbreak ( they do love Kanye, and the controversy at the VMA's will keep him on the voters' minds)
Taylor Swift- Fearless ( the only notable name in popular country now, plus ditto Kanye)
Green Day- 21st Century Breakdown (the only hald-decent rock record that got any radio play)
The Black Eyed Peas- The E.N.D. (This album dominated the charts this year, and will get nominated on that fact alone)
and then some album by an older artist that should've won for an earlier release, but didn't, so is given a Pity Grammy (think Ray Charle, Herbie Hancock or Robert Plant)
or Animal Collective- Merriwether Post Pavilion (don't be surprised if this album gets nominated based on it's quality alone, similar to In Rainbows last year)
Do the people who choose the nominees still like Pearl Jam? I heard they are still going strong in the states so maybe Backspacer along with The Fixer in some rock category perhaps?
Kanye West - 808's and Heartbreaks
Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3
U2 - No Line On The Horizon
Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You
The Blueprint 3 is ineligible, because it was released on September 11, 2009, two weeks (roughly) after the cut off date. I didn't think about Pearl Jam, that actually could turn out to be a good prediction.
