I just discovered London Calling a few weeks ago and it is EASILY my #1 album, and I don't see that ever changing. _________________ London Calling - Best Album of All-Time

This album never gets old. It's so deep and truly touches your emotions. As brilliant as Beefheart is, his songs will never be as emotional as those of Strummer and Jones. I don't know how such brilliant can be composed by just two people and in such a short time. London Calling is a combination of beautiful lyrics, strong emotions, brilliant musicanship, multi-layered songs that are pure genius, and political songs that are on beyond even dylan's protest songs _________________ "The future is unwritten."

It's funny that you made this post when I just listened to this for the umpteenth time a few hours earlier. In fact, I've been listening to this album more and more of late. Even with all the new music I've been getting into, I find myself in the mood to revisit 'London Calling' a lot. The musicianship is amazing- probably my favorite aspect of the album. The spirit of punk is there, but it's so much more than just a punk album (not that 'just punk' is a bad thing). I really love the energy. For me, it's such a fun record. I think that sometimes the deep, emotional quality that you mention sometimes gets overlooked because they sound like they are having so much fun. 'Lost in the Supermarket', for example, is a really profound statement on life in a capitalist/consumerist society, and it's also just a really catchy song. Anyway, a great album, and it's slowly making its way into my top 10, maybe even top 5.

After 30+ years London Calling retains a vitality and power that is hard to match. I have owned the album since it came out and have never tired of listening to it. There isn't a bad track on it and it continues to amuse, entertain and provoke into its 4th decade. It is the work of a band, and particularly of a song-writer, at their peak and shows a maturity that few others from the Punk era achieved (Paul Weller being the notable exception). It has been in my top 10 albums since 1980 and I suspect will continue there until I'm old and grey! _________________ YCDTOSA
