Sorry, have I done something wrong (again)?. I'm not certain I understand what you mean. I've not been a member for that long and I am still finding my way around the site. What have I done this time?

I prefer The Pixies

Indeed, I agree wholeheartedly. I have always hated Nirvana's work and have yet to find anything good about Nevermind. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" gets old after two listens. The second half is really weak like harrisonfords said. I'm very thankful I didn't grow up in the early '90s. I'm growing up in the internet music-era.

Nevermind isn't top ten material although it is a great album (and Nirvana's only album worth listening to at that). It's influence is undoubtedly so big though, that there is a clear dividing line between those who created their musical identity before it, and those who were in the process of doing that in 1991 or after. Nirvana wasn't the first grunge band, but they were undoubtedly the most influential. Few bands have had that Beatles-like hype around them (Oasis is the only other that come to mind), but for a brief period in the early 90s Nirvana did, and I would still say that it is relevant to talk about rock music pre- and post- Nirvana (which essentially means the Nevermind album).

i don't agree Nevermind is by far one of the greatest albums of all time even in the top 5 ! and their popularity never died ! here are some objective facts:

-everywhere i go i see teens with Nirvana t-shirt (when Nevermind was released they were not yet born !).

-and Nevermind is still one of the best catalog chart selling albums.

-another proof about the eternal hype around that band is the movie released about kurt cobain death in 2005..... a movie by Gus Van Sant !!!!!

But Personally i prefer Doolittle or Daydream Nation or even Goo. still Nevermind has been a generation's flag !

hmmm, how to best explain this.....

Is Nevermind one the best albums ever? Probably not. It is a really good Pixies album to be honest. Which means it is really catchy and fun as hell to listen to.

It IS one of the most historically significant albums ever, maybe the biggest since Thriller in 1982, which brought the "genre" of alt rock which had been languishing in relative cultural obscurity into the main stream and made it the most popular music in the world for about 4 years.

Why this happend? Who knows? Alot of bands were more deserving of the honor (the aforementioned Pixies, The Replacements). But the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit had alot to do with it. So did the disappointment with the huge, oveblown Michael Jackson and Guns n' Roses albums that came out around the same time.

All in all this album just struck a cord with a generation growing up in the early 90's that had no identity up to that point, and it defined the time.
