I don't really like either of those songs. Shocked Laughing

For me, this was one of those seminal albums that opened my ears to many other styles of music. An appreciation for fine lyricism was developed and left me yearning for afrobeat and worldbeat music such as (Fela Kuti, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Vampire Weekend etc). Objectively and subjectively; a great album.

The first six tracks of this album are really great 80s pop music, particularly tracks 2, 5, and 6. Sure, some of it is cheesy and even mawkish in lyrics and arrangement, but it comes with the territory in this genre. Unfortunately, the rest of it is really not that great for me. "That Was Your Mother" is awful. So is "Under African Skies."

This record gets a lot of crap for the circumstances of its creation and subsequent critical reception (i.e. the fact that arguably the most famous and widely praised album having anything to do with Africa at all in lyrics or in sound was created by a White American guy appropriating "World Music" seems to piss a few people off) but musically it's solid. At least for the first half.

This. I'd say, in folk wise, this guy is twice as good as Fleet Foxes
