This is one of the best albums from my favorite band. Although I don't think it's their best, (Foxtrot and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway are better) it's still a fantastic album that I listen to quite often. I would probably say that it's the most British-sounding album in my collection.

Nice to see an another Gabriel-era Genesis fan here on BEA. This is also one my favourite albums by one of my favourite bands.
Though I prefer Selling England over Foxtrot, I do think The Lamb is better than this album. (The Lamb is currently #2 on my overall chart while Selling England is #13). I think the production here is way better than it is on Foxtrot, this is one of the main reasons why I prefer this over Foxtrot.
My favourite song on this album is The Cinema Show.
Funny it is #5 on the 1973 chart, on the overall it #166. The Lamb is #1 in 1974, though only #246 on the overall ranking.

This is absolutely sublime and by far my favorite prog album (the close second being Foxtrot). Seriously The Lamb's got nothing on this. I truly know nothing about prog, but this is catchy as hell, and every instrument does an absolutely beautiful job. Gabriel's voice is breathtaking too. Love love love.

On my chart, all three albums are in the top ten. Foxtrot being at #1 (you can surely tell by my username), The Lamb being at #4, and Selling England being at #9. Also, I was wondering if you like any of the Collins-era stuff. (not like Invisible Touch, I mean albums like A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering)

Yes checked your chart, so good!
I like A Trick of the Tail a lot, I think it is up there with Foxtrot, The Lamb and SEBTP. it is actually my 4th favourite Genesis album.
I don't really care about the post Gabriel and Hackett-era,though.

Although I agree with you for the most part, I do enjoy Duke and Invisible Touch quite a bit. When I am able to extend my chart to 100 entries there is a good chance that they will make an appearance. The other albums from this era all have at least a couple of standout tracks. (Except Calling All Stations, of course. Calling All Stations is to Genesis what Squeeze is to the Velvet Underground. The thing that they both have in common is that neither of them exist outside of these parentheses.)

Absolutely stunning. "Firth of Fifth" opens with what may be my favorite piano solo of all time, and "After the Ordeal" is in the running for my all-time favorite instrumental.
Foxtrot is an incredibly close second, but both are phenomenal. Lamb Lies Down is really pretty mediocre next to those two.
