Personally seeing a movie about the first four albums from The Cure would be interesting.
I know with some songs from Three Imaginary Boys Robert Smith hated them. During Faith, 17 Seconds and Pornography the band went through constant changes and some members developed a strong drug dependency. And with Pornography, they thought that was the beginning of the end and most of the recording Smith didn't even remember.
What about the making of a truly terrible album? I just watched Ed Wood and found it really compelling - genuinely heartwarming in fact. Perhaps that could translate to the world of music. It'd still have to be a band that were passionate about what they were doing. Any thoughts/ideas?

have you seen "Anvil"? it's a doco about a couple of guys from this heavy metal band in the 80's who were getting big at the time who just disappeared and now 30 years later were still trying to do their music. They're not particularly bad (though it's certainly not my style) but it's incredibly heartwarming seeing them just pushing on even though they're like over.
