Really not sure how Fiona is formulaic. At least not her last album. Well, i guess all music follows some sort of formula. Some of the things you say just sound so closed-minded for someone who appears to be incredibly openminded.

Fiona. Idler Wheel is far above and beyond anything I've ever heard by Blake

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

I don't know why, but I've never been crazy about Fiona Apple. Maybe I'll get her in time. I have, however, grown to really appreciate James Blake.

Probably won't change your mind, but if you don't know them you should check out his first four 12"s, the 'Air & Lack Thereof' / 'Sparing the Horses' single, and his three pre-album EPs, CMYK, Klavierwerke, and The Bells Sketch. They're his best work IMO.

I've heard most of that stuff. It's all far better than his most recent album, and definitely worth listening to for sure. I just feel like Fiona's past 2 records have a bit more substance.

I always find Fiona Apple's music good, but that's all, it's not something I feel like listening very often, maybe that'll change someday. Vote for James Blake, he's very good.
