Some badly organised thoughts.

The vocals. Howland's voice is a tiny bit whiney but he puts a lot venom behind his words that really drives home the lyrics. He also sounds sorta unhinged on this album sometimes too, I dig crazy.

The guitar and drums. These are pretty much the only instruments used on this album as the band is a two piece. There's a kickass Saxaphone solo on one of the earlier tracks though and an angry harmonica that pops up around the place. Both Howland and Thomas are at the top of their game. Howland plays a perfect fusion of punk and blues guitar, powerful and fast but still keeping that soulful blues feel to it. Bim Thomas is probably one of my favourite drummers right now and I usually don't pay much attention to them to be honest. It's rare that I listen to an album and focus on the drumming.

The lyrics. Usually on "loud" albums like this the lyrics are pretty sub par but not here. It's not exactly Bob Dylan but it ain't half bad, probably something to do with Howland's background as an English teacher. Cockroach Blues is pretty funny, Virginia Valley Blues is dark as fuck and Jack And The Kings New Ground has a great little story to it. Most of the songs are short but they have quite a bit of depth to them.

I suck at writing.

From what I remember of this one (I had to remind myself by digging through youtube as I don't think it survived my last mp3 data loss) it's pretty much one of those approaches I like to listen to but isn't overwhelming for me. I've never particularly noticed the lyrical songwriting so I think as I relisten I'm going to try to focus a bit there so thanks for Cymro for bringing that to the forefront. Love noisy garage punk-esque guitar bits and this definitely brings that to the table.

Gave this one a spin today. Can't say I loved it, but it was a fun garage rock record, with a bit of 13th Floor Elevators hidden in there. Gonna have to give it another listen
