Ambitious not in a creative way but in the way where they want to make the next American Idiot and "sell out".Whatever bands they are imitating they don't do it well.I prefer their first two albums and the conventional weapons compilation as they don't take themselves too seriously there.
This album may have saved and defined more lives than some albums in the top 100 on this website.
Working in a mental health capacity with teenagers, I can tell you that this is quite true. I'm not a big fan of MCR, but I have seen what an impact they've had on many people. I know we can say that about many bands, but MCR often resonates with struggles in youth. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
MCR never did much for me outside of this album, a song here or there maybe, but I really do enjoy this one a lot. Pop but it at least tried to have a message behind it. That message didn't really come across for me until really recently, and I still don't find it that deep, but I know many that do. For me, Iggy Pop's The Idiot, The Smiths' The Queen is Dead, Joy Division's UP, Bon Iver's FEFA, Joy Divison's Closer, and Rubber Soul all stopped me at least once from doing things that I would really now regret, and upon opening up to a friend about those albums being "lifesavers", she said she found comfort in much the same way from The Black Parade. outlaw hit the nail on the head, I think. _________________
Not a guilty pleasure (I hate that idea is why so nothing is ever a guilty pleasure to me) nor do I care much for the message or lyrics, but this is one hell of an album. I love it.
their best album by far although i will never understand the hype behind teenagers. it's just so annoying. i never skip any of the mcr songs on my ipod yet i have to with that song 99% of the time. _________________ Pipe Dreams is a virus...
With the release of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, My Chemical Romance revealed themselves as one of the better New Jersey bands. This is a major accomplishment, since nearly every young band in NJ and Long Island sounded just like them. Living close enough to Jersey, I have a soft spot for the whole high energy emo punk thing, but I got bored with it really fast. The Black Parade was likely a better album. It was certainly more ambitious but by the time it came out, I had no interest in MCR. I can see why people like it, but I have a really hard time listening to it anymore.
In response to Mr Frogger's comment. Animal Collective's last release gave me a migraine the first two times I heard it, due to the extreme levels of digital compression.
I think anyone who likes MCR would probably also really like:
