A definite guilty pleasure of mine. Supports the 'soft spot for music you liked as a teenager' theory. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.

Same, though I prefer their following two releases.

Purple is one of the best AOR Hard Rock albums of all time. Easy. It's right up there with Def Leppard's High n' Dry & Nazareth's Razamanaz imo. Meanwhile, Tiny Music is one of the most inventive, fresh & fun pop metal albums ever, and I'd bet serious recs that it influenced Homme in the making of QOTSA's Rated R.
Core itself is a mix bag & rather uneven from what I remember. I wasn't big on Pearl Jam's sound to begin with so I thought "Plush" was pretty lame, but despite mining similar territory I love "Creep." "Dead & Bloated," "Sex Type Thing" & "Wicked Garden" RAWK!

I actually always liked "Plush" (especially the acoustic version), despite its similarities to a Pearl Jam song, and was kinda meh on "Creep". Agree on the rest, though, especially the inconsistency. I'm kinda surprised it's rated even as high as 789.

Oh, yeah! I forgot about that. I liked the acoustic version better too. Listening to "Plush" right now (still not crazy about it after all these years), & it would actually be a fun sing-around-the-campfire type of song. What was the acoustic version released on back in the day? Was it a b-side? I'm sure it's on a greatest hits comp of some sort, but just curious about it's history.

I always figured it was from their MTV unplugged session, but I didn't actually hear it till Napster a few years later, so I don't know for sure.

GOOGLE wrote: | Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo performed an impromptu acoustic version of "Plush" on the MTV show Headbangers Ball that was also very popular recorded in 1992. It was originally only available on a CD single from the United Kingdom for their single, "Creep", and on the German promotional radio release "Plush (unplushed)", but it was not officially released to U.S. or anywhere until 2003 on the band's "greatest hits" compilation, Thank You, along with the original electric version. Like its original version, it also became a big hit to rock and alternative radio stations in 2003 (despite not charting on any U.S. or international charts) although it had moderate airplay when the original version had heavy airplay on radio at the time. |

Ugh. Awful IMO.
Coming from a guy who thinks those who label Soundgarden as cock-rock as elitist pricks... This is radio-bred rock.
