- Post subject: Possibility of points for Collecting
|
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I've always thought that gaining points for collecting music was a good idea for this site. Even if it's just 1/2 a point per album.
Of course, I realize there could be problems with that, mainly with people trying to rack up points by saying they have albums they really don't, I'm not oblivious to that possibility, but there are users rating albums they've never heard to give it a higher or lower ranking. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

I dont really think we need this to be honest. The point system is in place more for members to help strengthen the site itself (atleast in my eyes). Data moderation, adding charts, forum posts, etc. directly adds to that, but I see having a collection (as well as wishlists) as things that just make it easier for the user to categorize albums.
They dont need encouragement for people to use.
That's just my 2 cents though.

Yeah I definitely see what you mean. I guess I would just like to see more about users collections, because there are (at least from what I have seen so far) more users who have their collection set on private than the other way around. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

I agree with Necharsian. I also think that ratings and comments should not add points to a users score.
I also think that albums that have not even had complete songs leaked should not be added to the site. But, that's another can o' worms... _________________ May we all get to heaven

Agree with Necharsian and Romanelli. You'll end up with people having 'collections' of 50,000 albums. The way the system works at the moment is designed to help support the functioning & well-being of the site.

Agree, definitely a problem with some future releases. These really shouldn't be added to the site as there's no way of knowing whether they'll be over the BEA minimum length & there's no way the people adding them could've even heard the album yet. I'm tending to flag these as suspect when I come across them until a proper track list can be supplied.

Oh and as a side note, I remember reading that the site was to undergo some big changes. Any estimate on when we will be seeing them? _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

One possible compromise is to give users a small, flat number of points for making their collections public (independent of size, above some limit). This encourages users to be a bit more open and social, which is good for the site.

That's more of where I was going with this. I would love to see more about users' collections. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

What's the policy on fully leaked albums? My 2015 Chart includes the latest Battles album because it has, in fact, been leaked and I have a copy on my terabyte.
also don't tell anyone _________________

The site does need to develop a clearer policy regarding future releases to appease people on both sides of the fence. Personally, I'm fine with a leaked album where there is an announced release date not too far in the future & a published track-listing so that the release can be verified as being over BEA's minimum limit for albums (more than four tracks or at least 20 minutes in length). If the release meets both those criteria it's likely to be ok to add.
