What record should I start at with this band? I caught part of their set at a festival a couple years ago and thought they were great but never got around to listening to them.

Antidotes for a rawer indie rock, Holy Fire for a more pop-oriented sound. They are not the best band ever, but they are worth a listen. They are definitely worth watching live.

Spanish Sahara is actually a decent song but I pretty much despise everything else I've heard of them.

It's just the most putrid and obnoxious mix of influences, and I think it's the fact that I really like those influences that makes me hate it all the more for what they've done with them.
