If not my all time favorite Zappa, it's definitely in the top three. This is a great album that never gets old for me. It's rock and it's jazz and it's totally Zappa at his compositional and improvisational best.

It's bloody mad, but it's also bloody brilliant, as well. As much as I like the more exotic jazz flavours, Willie the Pimp is the best song on the album. It's meandering and chaotic in its improvisaiton, just how I like it. One of the songs that I really want to perform live at some point, just to freak out the audience. _________________

Instrumentally, this is one of Zappa's most amazing albums and achievements. It features some fucking bold instrumentation especially for it's time ('69). I prefer to listen to Zappa's later work with vocals and a tinge of comedy sprinkled upon it (', ONS, Joe's). However, this was one of his first legendary masterstrokes. I would recommend it to anyone who likes progressive music. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
