Seth, check out Maiden's first two albums. That's the punk metal you seek.

start with...

Killers by Iron Maiden

this is my fave.

As a matter of fact, you provided like 4 bands I hadn't heard before for some cool metal bass, and I dug all of that.

When it comes to cool metal bass, you absolutely can't beat Maiden. Steve Harris is the ultimate driving 4-string monster of the genre. Other than Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, nobody has driven his group from the low end like Harris. The bass is the one thing, even more than Dickinson's vocals, that separates Maiden from the crowd. Almost every metal group has accomplished guitarist, they usually have vocalists with chops and highly competent drummers, but few have standout bassists. Maiden is the benchmark in this regard.

First two and last two songs are among the best in metal. The 4 inbetween are rather bland and unimpressive. Still the highs are so high it doesn't affect the album's rating that much.
My second favourite Maiden album, with Seventh Son of The Seventh Son being the no. 1.

Well there's a reason metal fans call it the "Iron Maiden gallop".

Thanks for the rec!

I actually really liked this one. Only song on it I didn't like was prodigal son.

I tried their debut, and while in the same vain it wasn't as good.

Indeed. He's got a great midrange growl and fantastic playing.

Cliff Burton not on the same level for you?

Not quite. Cliff was great, and I've enjoyed playing his lines, but I still don't class him with Geezer and Harris. Those two are on their own plane in the Metal genre IMO. I have to go outside Metal to find others of their caliber (Geddy, Entwistle, JPJ, Jaco)
