Heads up for June releases:
USA/Mexico's Laredo and Palm's Shadow Expert will both be AOTY contenders for anyone with decent ears.
EDIT: Just saw that you can stream the USA/Mexico record here

so psyched for that new Palm tho I guess technically it'll be an EP. but I chatted em at the merch table when I saw em last and they hope to have a full album out near end of year though it could be 2018. they're touring again late june/july in USA, GO SEE THEM IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY.
new guerilla toss is really catchy stuff, would recommend that too. like they went way smoothed out on their sound but it's all still so much fun.

New Vince Staples announced. Big Fish Theory. New track is pretty solid, especially that part where he rhymes 'morning' with 'Sawyer'. Big more on the YG-style production this time around. |
Late here, but I'm excited for the new album. The EP last year was one of my favorite releases of 2016. Though I can't figure out how I feel about the new tracks. Something about his delivery puts me in a weird spot. _________________ ...and for dessert!

hey anyone who's into Hellfyre Club shit (Open Mike Eagle, Busdriver, Milo) label founder Nocando, who's always kinda been the posse's weak link, but his new shit is honestly really dope. He's let go of his unending need to always nail whatever The Punchline of the moment is and he's gone full Perfect Hair so to speak. Really thoughtful stuff (despite a couple of kinda cringey sounding hooks here and there).
features include Ghetts and Aceyalone. Check it yo

hip hop that slaps and is good from this year? i thought DAMN was alright, Culture is pretty lame, and i don't want anything that can be even tangentially called conscious or backpacker or whatever the fuck (bonus points if it's a mixtape under an hour)

-_-
ok but yeah I got some stuff
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
The Chang Project by Nef The Pharaoh
just that kinda modern vaguely poppy west coast sound but a really solid exercise in it. Distinctly Bay Area with a lot of influence from Mac Dre.
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
The Dunigans Mixtape by Seed Of 6ix
the Three Six Mafia kids dropped their own memphis tape and it's dope. Runs in the family I guess
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Seminary by Philthy Rich
more Bay Area shit. Soulful, world-weary street trap.
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Step Brothers Three by Starlito & Don Trip
ok like there is some conscious shit here but generally it's just really good trap with loads of personality
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
The Local Cafe by Eric Biddines
cool soulful southern stuff with influenced by southern gospel and spirituals almost half as much as it is by Outkast
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Roadkill by Opposite Lanes
short power-noise-hop EP basically. Could go either way with you but it's short as hell so worst case scenario is I owe you 20 minutes of your life back lol
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Welcome 2 Houston by Slim Thug
this is like, the most Texas album I've heard that isn't by Screw or UGK lol (that's a good thing)
also idk if you're looking for instrumental stuff or not but
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Everything You've Forgotten by Paul White
very idiosyncratic production style. I mean it's Paul White; If you liked his work on Atrocity Exhibition then this is well worth a listen
Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.
Headnod Suite by Karriem Riggins
very Dilla-influenced beat-tape with some moments that almost feel like they've been tinted with Detroit techno. Good listen for just chilling out.
also the new Rich Homie Quan and Chief Keef tapes are pretty aight
