This is definitely his most fun and uplifting album with lots of catchy rockers that sound even better live. Still, the ballads are probably the best tracks here. And the title track is one of the best songs ever.

I love his studio music.
Especially his older stuff.
If your looking to start a collection from Bruce, this is a good starting point. Or Born in the USA
Its all american, apple pie, white picket fence, FM sounding music without the heavy rocking or depressing lyrics.

I randomly listen to Bruce through the year: normally, I focus on Nebraska, Tunnel of Love, Darkness on the
edge of town, Born to Run

I remember clearly when disco was all the rage. Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta was #1 for weeks (I listened to the soundtrack about 4 months ago, and it sounded really good even today) and everyone thought that rock music was on its deathbed, and there was nobody around to save it . Suddenly, the music establishment was pushing the messiah theme of "Bruce Springsteen SAVED rock and roll". Does anyone remember this period?

I'm not sure he saved it, but he did produce many incredible albums and The River is certainly a good one.
