this is an incredible record, and if you haven't heard it, you should listen to it. it's in my top ten for 2017, and i think it'd be there even if hayden wasn't a user here, given that i'd come across the record.
I esp. recommend if you're a fan of Triangle Records (Balam Acab, Lotic, Clams Casino) or artists like Blanck Mass, Burial and Holly Herndon. |
Thanks Craola Changed the artwork... font really wasn't sitting well with me.
Glad you dig the release, def some of my most (I dunno??? forward thinking?) material. Shiso was a blast... made a whole bunch of my own drum pads, really wanted it to sound like it was being played in front of you... also secretly want RTJ to rap over it, but that probably won't happen Looking back on it, I probably would've working on Circuitboard a tad longer... and the title track is at least a minute too long... but ah well. Also, I have a revamped version of Lima which I haven't released (mix is slightly different and it has more punch, bass is compressed and distorted too).
Shiso sparked a whole project I made based on Vietnamese/Japanese instruments which I've yet to release. Brad's heard a version of it, but it isn't completely finished yet. Dunno when I'll release that... might end up being a BEA only thing.
Appreciate the Holly Herndon comparison, especially considering Movement is the influence of several tracks I'm working on right now (haven't released any snippets of them yet... still a bit rough). My next project has been a lot of fun to work on... really pushing it. The idea is that most tracks will have minimally sampled abstract poems for lyrics, which's been a challenge, but it's getting there. Kinda pulling ideas from Arca/Bjork/Holly/Radiohead/Four Tet/Jlin/Burial and even RTJ/Vince/Kendrick beats. Possibly the most confident work I've done to date, I've changed my process up a little. Hoping it turns out for the best.
Cheers

I really enjoyed it. His take on Black Muddy River is phenomenal. Its mostly covers dealing with death or twilight of life issues. It is not a happy record but is cathartic and moving. His voice though weaker than it was when he was young is still able to bring a ton of emotion and even hits some power a few times. A really good record. Reminds me of the last records by Warren Zevon and Joey Ramone two other LPs I really enjoyed.
