Which do you think is the best krautrock band? Do you have a favorite one that's not listed?

For someone who's still going through that phase in their life, it would be CAN for me too but with Faust in an incredibly close second. Tago Mago, So Far, Ege Bamyasi & IV probably make a holy quartet for the genre in my head. However I think The Cosmic Jokers should be considered, they're remarkable and very consistent as well. Obviously, I have a bias Laughing .

One of the bigger projects I have in the works is to transcribe all of Can's albums from 69-74. So, suffice to say that Can's my go-to Krautrock band, though I do like some Neu!, Faust and Amon Duul, too (aka basic bitch Krautrock knowledge).

Would you consider The Notwist to be krautrock? Or is it too recent?

I like Can, Kraftwerk & Tangerine Dream.
Did not vote as I don't know most of the listed bands very well.

I like originality, great production, atmosphere and energy. Where should I start (what krautrock band)? I'd love to learn more about this (in)famous genre from a neighboring country!

Can is great. Here is an album that is also great

Samtvogel by Gunter Schickert

I'd recommend the essentials first of course but once you've hit those, remember to hit up this one too

Can for the instrumental chops (I voted for them). But I'm partial to Popol Vuh (love the "atmospherics"). And Tangerine Dream too.

While they are not my favorite of these bands, everyone needs to know about this album by Triumvirat. That album cover is just loony.

I'm listening to this. It's not what I expected at all. I hate to admit it but I never heard triumvirat before. I always knew who they were but I never heard them. The album cover is awesome too.

Wow. I never knew can was so popular. They're kicking everyone else's ass in the poll.

Yeah, I gotta' go with Can as well.

But at their best, Triumvirat were special. Always happy to listen to Faust. And Aman Duul rocks!
