Hello there!
I was wondering if the redesigned site will have some sort of tagging system to add categories.
Examples:
Genre: 'Jazz', 'Rock', 'Experimental', 'electronic indie Christian folk metal' ...
Mood: 'Dark', 'Happy', 'Trippy'..
Instrument focus: 'Piano', 'Guitar', 'acoustic', 'scratching'..
..
(also allow members to add new tags, as it is impossible to think of all possibilities up front..)
(I found this existing similar forum thread, but it's closed and quite old, so decided to bring it up again (with some minor suggestions for implementation details) https://www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/v...php?t=3508 )
I'm aware that these are quite subjective (even/especially genre) and will lead to some extensive discussion.. So some kind of 'number of users that voted this tag' could be helpful. Similar to 'endorsement/skills' on LinkedIn or something.
This would make it easier for users to find albums with (or explicitly without) certain criteria they enjoy. As the 'overall best rating' is not always enough to know you're if going to like something I've used this site to find worthwhile albums for years before becoming a member..
Thx & Grtz[/url] _________________ My charts page

Hi and thanks for the feedback. To answer your question, the redesigned site will eventually have tagging, but the first step is to get the redesigned site into production (which has been taking a while), and from there it will be possible to add all of the new features that people have been requesting over the past couple of years (while the site has been re-developed in the background).
I think, as you mention, there are a lot of benefits in having some kind of tagging system. First and foremost it will allow the site to be a browsed in new ways which will add a new dimension for people using the site. As you say, there's a lot more flexibility with using tags than assigning a static 'genre' for each album (which also will avoid a lot of arguments), and allow users to assign multiple tags to each album (or track, artist, chart etc) and this will also be a bit more scalable and will be easier to look after (and has been discussed elsewhere e.g. on the linked thread & a few others).
