Why do they keep messing with classic records that were perfect the way they were and remix them or re-record them, and then try to tell us how they're better than the originals. Or that this was how it was originally intended to be, is if that makes it better. Or they give us stereo mixes of songs that were recorded in mono, and try to convince us that they're better.
Stop already!!!!
Does anybody REALLY like any of these better than the originals?

These are the ones that bug me the most. Do you have any that you think they should have left alone?

Let It Be.. The Beatles
Tubular Bells... Mike Oldfield.
Travelogue... Joni Mitchell
Good Vibrations... Beach Boys
The Cry of Love.. Jimi Hendrix
Director's Cut... Kate Bush
Phaedra.. Tangerine Dream
Blondie 4(0) Ever... (Re- recordings of most of their biggest, already perfect hits)

Agreed. Apart from that rubbish Starsailor record the original Let It Be was Spector's nadir, especially viz. The Long And Winding Road.

That practice was rife in the 60s with fold-down mixes anyway, so in some cases a modern stereo remaster isn't always a bad thing. True though that if an album was originally recorded in mono sometimes that's the best way to hear it, Sgt. Pepper and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn being prime examples. In fact I think the original mono of Sgt. Pepper beats any subsequent stereo issue or remaster hands down from a personal point of view.

I know, right? The new stereo versions are supposed to sound fuller, but to me they just sound THINNER.

And I just think the old Let It Be was a funner album. And I think the old Long and Winding Road was a gorgeous beautiful tearjerker that made me cry, and the new one just sounds like a demo that someone did. Heh heh

It's all about nothing but money. Give me the original versions. I prefer my albums the way they were originally intended. Bonus tracks are mostly garbage that was meant to be left on the cutting room floor, and they mostly (with a few exceptions) sound that way. I don't want my albums remastered...there is mostly no real difference...and when there is, it usually sounds worse than the original.

The purpose of doing this is nothing more than trying to move more units. To make more money. To get people who have already bought an album to buy it a second time. Somehow, it works.

That's my opinon.

"Gonna Take A Lot Of River", "Beyond Those Years", "No Matter How High". and "Lucky Moon" from the Oak Ridge Boys were eventually re-done. To me, they should've been left alone. In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the original recordings.

God bless you always!!!

This is very true. The wall of sound didn't do the Beatles well (absolutely hated the long and winding road before I heard how it was "supposed to be").

Also agree with the Sgt. Pepper (I think... I mean really both sound good).

BUT for the love of puppies did they butcher Nirvana's Nevermind. It's the only remaster/remix that I have to turn off out of outrage. The rest aren't terrible, but then again I don't really go out of my way to compare or whatever. When I put on Nevermind though, it's like a totally different record and ruined. Like bad.

Some remasters/remixes I actually think did well. I want to say pretty hate machine actually sounded fantastically better, but it's been a long time since I remember.

Was it really a wall of sound on the original album ? All Things must Pass is more wall of sound to me.
As for Let it be Naked, it's a bit too naked for my taste and it makes me fantazise on a George Martin production.
