Neil Young's greatest achievement. A haunted, elongated purge, on the verge of alcoholic, drug-induced collapse ... Haphazard and guilt-ridden, listless and grieving in the exhausted aftermath of tragedy...

Neil created many masterpieces.
This certainly is one. What an achievement!!!!

A true "dark night of the soul".
At this point of his life, he was mourning the loss of his original crazy horse guitarist Danny Whitten(who died from drug overdose- for many years, neil actually felt responsible for his death) and that of roadie Bruce Berry who was also a good friend of neils (he originated with crosby stills nash and young).

every track is amazing.

This is a great album, although from this era of Neil's career, I prefer On The Beach.

I went through a big Neil Young kick a year and a half or so ago, and I was really excited to find this and listen to it, but it didn't click with me like other albums of his did. I should really revisit it. Although, of course there are some emotional as fuck moments on here.

Yeah, this one takes a few more spins than the others. I went through the same thing as you. Totally worth the extra effort. Peace, brother!
