Is College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation some kind of trilogy of albums? Or do they just happen to have similar titles? |
In a sense, sure, thematically they blend. I'd probably recommend them in that order too.
808's is continuously underappreciated. It's a great record, just a different route. I've still yet to hear anything quite like it, and I think it's a great staple in Kanye's discography. It's def better than Pablo and Watch The Throne, and I might even put it a shade about Yeezus.
Also, this:
I miss the old Kanye, straight from the Go Kanye
Chop up the soul Kanye, set on his goals Kanye
I hate the new Kanye, the bad mood Kanye
The always rude Kanye, spaz in the news Kanye
I miss the sweet Kanye, chop up the beats Kanye
I gotta say, at that time I'd like to meet Kanye
See, I invented Kanye, it wasn't any Kanyes
And now I look and look around and there's so many Kanyes
I used to love Kanye, I used to love Kanye
I even had the pink polo, I thought I was Kanye
What if Kanye made a song about Kanye
Called "I Miss The Old Kanye"? Man, that'd be so Kanye
That's all it was Kanye, we still love Kanye
And I love you like Kanye loves Kanye

It was meant to be a whole series--I think of seven albums or something--but he dropped it after his mom died. Something like that. _________________ Inversion Verses

Wow, I really have to learn more about this guy. Has any artist done a series of albums that long (7)? _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Coheed and Cambria come to mind. As does Janelle Monae, whose Metropolis suite is still going. _________________ Inversion Verses

Oh right, totally forgot about Coheed. A band called The Dear Hunter is on their 5th or 6th release in a series now that I think about it. I'll check out Janelle Monae's work soon too. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Idk if you gave it a listen yet, but I'd hold off on MBDTF until you've heard his front half of his discography. Wow, I am an idiot, I didn't even read the entire original post. But still, start from the beginning. The evolution is beautiful.
Actually, I recommend listening to his entire discography in chronological order. From the College Dropout to TLOP. I made the dumb mistake of listening to his other albums first before the College Dropout. Makes me appreciate the debut a little less than it deserves.
And the obligatory discography ranking:
1. MBDTF
2. Graduation
3. 808s
4. Late Registration
5. Yeezus
6. The College Dropout
7. TLOP _________________ ...and for dessert!
