I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you. In reality, pop punk was pretty good up until the point when it became an official genre about 1992. The earlier music from the 70s up until the 90s that was sometimes described as Pop Punk was free of all the mannerisms and tics and cliches that pop-punk would take on in the 90s. Even though pop punk became an official genre then, it was neither good pop nor good Punk. With several exceptions of course. Everyone has at least a couple favorites.
