- Post subject: I don't understand the ranking system.. little help?

I'm trying to figure out what they use to give albums their rankings here. For example, there's an album that's ranked number 981 of the 1980s, it has an average rating of 80, that's pretty good, right?, And it appears in 47 charts. But it's only ranked 981. And on the other hand, there's an album with an average rating of 71 and appears in 12 charts, yet it's ranked 200 and something. I don't understand this. I don't get it. How does it work?

ratings have no impact and rankings are entirely determined by the placements on user charts and charts from music magazines and stuff. if something is high up on a few charts that will give it more points than if it is at the bottom of many charts

I don't understand.. If I remember you like the Beatles so you should be more enthused about the charts than I am! In any case it beats RateYourMusic by a long shot, that chart is dumb.

Honestly if you want the best ranking possible sort by rating and don't include compilations.

I think the problem is lots of people think if the ranking system was only different, the chart would match their personal favorites, but the overall chart is an amalgamation of many people with different tastes. I can't find any charts all that similar to mine, for example... Basically other people will screw up the chart so it doesn't look like yours...
