What can be better than lying on a beach in Corfu sipping at a Café frappé and listening to the new Kamasi Washington Very Happy

Heaven And Earth! by Kamasi Washington

Can't help but feeling Kamasi is just treading the same ground at this point? I used to dismiss his critics, but I've found myself unable to ignore some of their points on this record.

Tired of the 'epic' sound that worked on 'The Epic' (funnily enough), but another 2.5 hours of it and I feel like I'm hitting repeat. I really want to hear him actually try out some different dynamics. His sax playing usually revolves around him building up to a high point and then hammering on the same note over and over again.

I've only heard this once, so take it with a grain of salt. This record's been getting huge praise in pretty much every corner - are we content starved for jazz?

It wasn’t my cup of tea. I can’t deal with all the choirs and strings. I didn’t even make it all the way through.

These are the jazz things currently on my 2018 list:

The Questions by Kurt Elling

Awase by Nik Bärtsch's Ronin

Music IS by Bill Frisell

Currents, Constellations by The Nels Cline 4

Invisible Threads by John Surman

All In My Mind by Lonnie Smith

Seymour Reads The Constitution! by Brad Mehldau Trio

I’m looking forward to hearing this tomorrow.

Vanished Gardens by Charles Lloyd &...a Williams

And this lost album from 1963, also.

ATTN USUAL SUSPECTS

Habib Funk just put out this archival Sudanese Jazz thing, Kamal Keila - Muslims and Christians, I think this is one to check out

https://habibifunkrecords.bandcamp.com/...christians (this is still on pre-order as of this post but the album will be up on streaming services now)

And this article about the album is excellent and will give you more great context https://daily.bandcamp.com/2018/07/05/k...a-feature/

Is it just me, or has thepace of interesting new releases really slowed in the last month or more? Maybe that’s typical for this time of year...?

What new releases is everyone still hanging out for?

Industry-wise, yeah, don't expect too much exciting stuff from late May until late September. Independent-wise, dig away.
