Do you keep yearly lists of your favourite singles, as opposed to albums?
If so, is it a playlist? How do you keep track? How big does the list get? What are your rules for when an album is a keeper, versus just keeping track of some of the tracks/singles?
I’ve recently started making two annual playlists on Apple Music:
YEARLY ALBUMS PLAYLIST
Basically, a replica of my annual list here of around 30 Albums
Running time - around 30 hours.
YEARLY SONGS PLAYLIST
Starts out as a replica of the albums list.
I edit it down, taking out songs that I consider filler.
It becomes apparent which albums I like most, as albums. Top of the list are albums I couldn’t delete a single track from. At the bottom of the list are albums where I realise a greatest hits album would be adequate.
I remove all the jazz and instrumental music. This list is about vocal music.
I add all the singles I’ve discovered and like (this used to be radio songs, and now is more likely individual songs that I liked on Albums I didn’t like enough to keep).
Ends up being around 200 songs per year.
Running time - around 15 hours.
The exciting thing for me, is that I could conceivably revisit all the music I really like from the last 50-60 years, EVERY YEAR, and have time for new music as well.
I’ve generally been about albums, but the sheer volume of music I’ve collected can be overwhelming at times. The album experience at best, is different to singles. But, I can see that this sifting process might serve me better into the future.

I've been keeping a yearly playlist of my favourite songs since 2014 and from 2015 onwards each year is separated into 2 playlists - my top 100 in order (which I lock as of midnight 31st December - a sort of time capsule if you will, otherwise they would always be changing) and all the rest (including later discoveries). Probably a total of 300-400 songs a year - I really should prune these at some stage but I love so much music. I use these for recommendations for albums to listen to when they haven't come from listening to the album first, and they are my go to playlist when friends are around as most people aren't into albums, and the variety provokes music discussions.

I typically don't, but totally did when I reviewed music from 2017. I didn't specifically pick the single, but a "good" song from each album.

I might do the same for every year... someday.
