I like Metanoia, but this is naturally an easy vote for me. Antisocialites was my most anticipated album of 2017, my highest rated album of 2017, and my most played album of 2017. Front to back, the songwriting, vocals, and jangly backdrop are outstanding. Although it peaks with its first song, it retains my interest and adoration throughout. As much as I love Antisocialites, I actually greatly prefer its predecessor, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. Check it out if you like this one! It's more in the vein of classic twee, while this one is janglier and dreamier. Both are essential. Alvvays are one of my favorite bands, and I look forward to seeing them next time they're in my neck of the woods.
The band also has an interesting background. Frontwoman Molly Rankin started out as a fiddler, following in the footsteps of her late father. But her calling shifted:
The Guardian wrote: | she met Alec O’Hanley, with whom she is romantically and professionally involved. Now playing guitar alongside her in Alvvays, he switched her on to indie rock, including Teenage Fanclub, a band she describes as “a door”.
“Alec gave me, I think, two copies of Bandwagonesque – one for the car and one for the apartment,” she says. |
This quote inspired me to start listening to more Teenage Fanclub, which I've enjoyed as well. _________________ Add me on RYM

The Alvvays album was something I shouldn’t have missen in 2017: a welcome addition for my chart; the Metanoia album is not really my thing

Alvvays was good, especially the 2nd half from Hey onwards, but I really liked Metanoia more and have already listened to an earlier album of theirs as well.
